I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving is already over, and we are on the fast track to Christmas. This is such a wonderful season. I love getting ready for the big day, and especially making my families favorite dishes, and most loved cookie treats.
I have lived in Canby for 44 years. When my folks told me we were moving to Canby I was 16. I was a Portland kid. I thought my life was over! Really? Moving to a small town! Where is Canby anyway?” I asked my dad. Dad promised I would love it. He told me most of the kids rode their horses to high school. Being gullible, I fell for his teasing as if it were fact. We made the move. But…I found out that Canby kids were just as savvy as big city kids, and I fell in love with this small country town just as Dad said.
That was in 1967. Wow, has Canby changed over the years. Now we have a population of 15,940. In spite of all the change and growth we have seen here The city has managed to maintain the wonderful livability of the small, old town I remember.
Cutsforth’s Market is a grocery store that has always offered the customer great satisfaction. Longtime area residents know the Cutsforths on a first name basis. And know that this store has been owned and operated by the same family through four generations. Newer shoppers and Canbyites appreciate this forward- looking business and appreciate how the store is always evolving to meet their needs.
Cutsforth’s Thriftway is located just East of N Ivy Street on NE 2nd ave. in the Canby Station Shopping Center. Other businesses on the site include Columbia River Bank, Biscuits Cafe, Thai Dish Restaurant, and Canby Station Dry Cleaners, as well as Canby Cinema. This is my one stop shopping center of choice. I love to meet friends at Cutsforth Market’s Espresso Bar and gathering place just inside the door. After relaxing for a time, catching up on everyone’s news, I set out in the store to do my grocery shopping. The amazing in-store bakery and deli offer great taste treats. The beer and wine section display assorted beers and micro-brews. Select wine offerings are a draw to those who appreciate a variety of local wines and special imports. I enjoy choosing healthy, fresh produce, and know that the meat I select will be delicious. I can buy in bulk, and if I don’t find a product I need, the clerks are always happy to order it. Oh, and there is a gift department, a floral shop and a take out pizza counter in the store as well.
But the best part of my shopping experience is their friendly customer service. The store personnel are the most helpful to be found, and are always anxious to help me out to my car with my purchases. You can tell they love their jobs and enjoy working in the store. There is a rewards program for shoppers as well. I value their pricing and I can go on-line to keep up on sales and store events.
Cutsforth’s Thriftway also sponsors local events like the Canby Cruise In and have a large banquet hall upstairs, that can be reserved for special occasions. The store also hosts the Rotary, Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce of Canby in their Town Hall above the store as well.
Of course Santa will make appearances during the pre Holiday Season, and often a pianist is playing Christmas Music on a Grand piano in the store. I am a believer in supporting our locally owned businesses, and I’m sure you have figured by now, my very favorite! By the way, you might call customer service at Cutsforths and see when Santa will be visiting their store.
